Every country has its own language. In Poker there are words that are strictly in use while in play. If a beginner does not know them others might be angry over one's ignorance. Before card sharks could even think of intimidating a player, they need to be familiar with the lingo used in poker.
Some would say that to be a poker winner, one has to play well and act well. This is because in poker there is a part of the game as important as any other aspect and is called bluffing. To bluff is to pretend that one has a good set of cards when in fact they normally do not. When one bluffs, one will go for a bet higher than what his hand warrants. Bluffing is a fundamental strategy in poker, its purpose is to scare other players and influence them to fold thinking one has a strong hand.
To be aggressive means one is going for a high bet early in the game and make the other players feel out of their comfort zone. The aggressive player goes for the maximum bet and usually stands until the end of the game. If one has a high skill level, aggressive play is a short cut to a lot of winnings.
Aside from the aggressive player, there is also the conservative player. One is considered conservative if player limits his or her bets to the minimum. At times when the cards at hand are in his or her favor, one immediately settles for a fold. Conservative playing is one way of keeping one's money in one's pocket and not in the pot. Conservative players are often the victims of the bluffer.
Action refers to the amount of bet waging on the game table. So say there is not much action, money being risked is small. So more action means bigger money at stake.
Since it is ok to bluff in poker, discovering other players' bluff is through the telltale signs. To tell means that one has discovered mannerism that likely supports that this player has a good hand and this one has a weak hand. One can tell that this player is holding a bluff when he or she grits their teeth to hide nervous of having a bad set of cards. If one is to protect oneself from other player's they need to play as stoically as possible. Bring on that poker face.
If in the game one has all the cards that another player wants it is said that one has crippled the deck. And if the next cards revealed helps ones hand then it said to be a hit.
And there still other words used that one will learn as one plays more and more.
