Women+poker=what?
Poker and women do not and cannot go along with each other, or so what chauvinists say. They have eliminated the possibility that women, like men, have the qualities to be good poker players. Once again, women are being subjected to gender bias, as if being a woman is a sin, or worse, a disease. They say that men are better poker players because they let their reason govern them while women are dominated by emotions. True enough, you should never be controlled by emotions if you want to win at poker. However, to generalize that all men are rational and all women are emotional is hasty and conceited at the same time. There are women who are reasonable, same as there are men who are emotional. Being a good poker player all boils down to the person, not to the gender.
Another thing why women will make good poker players is that they are good in dealing with emotions, not just purely emotional. Obviously, women are more open to share how they feel, they are braver to face sadness and frustrations, hence, shows like Oprah. Unlike men who are used to taking it all in, women are experienced in taking their frustrations out. People who set aside their emotions piles them up inside themselves and later on will become their downfall. Probably, when a female poker player gets a bad card, she would get upset, she knows she's upset and accepts it humbly. While men, especially proud men will not accept bad cards and will let their emotions take over them.
Men are known to be better in solving analytical problems that is why the make good poker players. However, women are also subjected to the same degree of problems everyday. It is very hard to be working moms because you have to work 8-10 hours a day then once you got home, there are the kids and the house to attend to. While men, once they get home, they can rest all they want because their wives will take care of everything. Therefore, women are better in managing their time and energy, balancing things, which is vital in decision-making. This is important in poker, you have to know when to fold or go all-in.
At present, there are lots of women who make it big in the poker world; some of them even win while at the middle of a divorce. So it's just weird to say that women couldn't handle the pressure and stress of poker. After all, in this world and in the poker world, what greater pressure there is than being a woman?
