Playing Pairs Late in 7 Card Stud

While players are very aggressive when holding high hands in the early stages of 7 Card Stud, they often end up getting flustered when left holding pairs at the late stages of the game. If you want to be a good player, then you must learn how to play the different kinds of pairs.

Of course, the best kind of pair would be the two pair in the fifth or sixth streets. If you have a high two pair in fifth street, then you are in a very good spot, and your 7 Card Stud strategy should be to raise and re raise. Be as aggressive as you can be, because it is likely that you have the best hand, so take the pot now.

If you hold a two pair in sixth street, the tactic should also be the same, although you should be aware that the strength of the two pair decreases as more cards are dealt.

A different 7 Card Stud strategy is needed if you are holding a high pair. In this case, assuming that there were no raisers in the fourth, then you should be on the aggressive mode still. However, if you are raised, or there are up cards that beat yours, then it may be a good time to fold.

Of course, if you are holding a JJ on the fifth, you can opt to chase the trip, but bear in mind that not only will this cost you, but a JJJ can be overcome by several other hands, so it is not a very good 7 Card Stud strategy. If you are on the sixth and are raised, fold; they have you beat. If not, then raise and re raise. The players will pay to see the seventh, but make them earn it.

With low pairs in the fifth, fold and save your chips for the next game. While some 7 Card Stud players will stay on with a high kicker, most will fold, and so should you. Always check, but fold if someone makes a bet to you. The same approach is of course, true when you are in the sixth. In fact, if you have low pair, you should fold before reaching this stage.

Knowing how to play two pairs, high and low pairs is part of any good 7 Card Stud strategy. A lot of players, particularly in online Poker rooms, do not understand the value of their hands, and by knowing yours, you have the edge and will earn you a lot of cash.
